The Mexican President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador has proposed that the top commission should include Pope Francis, the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and Indian PM Narendra Modi. The aim of the commission would be to present a proposal to stop the wars around the world and reach an agreement to seek a truce for at least five years. 2. Super Garud Shield exercise was conducted on Sumatra island between the armies of US, Indonesia, Australia.

3. Al Najah exercise was held in Bikaner between the Indian and Oman army.

The fourth edition of Indo-Oman joint training exercise ‘Al Najah-IV’, with a focus on counter-terrorism, regional security, and peacekeeping operations, was concluded on Saturday at Mahajan Field Firing Range in Bikaner, according to the statement released by Defence Ministry.

4. Liberal Shakti Exercise was conducted between the Air Force of India and Malaysia.

Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent left for Malaysia to participate in a four-day bilateral exercise ‘Udarashakti’ with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). The exercise will give an opportunity to the IAF contingent members to share and learn best practices with some of the best professionals from the RMAF, while also discussing mutual combat capabilities.

5. The two-day film festival was organized in New Delhi.

A film festival showcasing short movies telling the stories of Partition of India will be hosted across four cities in the month of August, the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) said on Tuesday. IGNCA also said that the last date to submit entries has been extended till August 10. The last date earlier was August 9. The festival dates are — Delhi (August 12-13), Amritsar (August 17-18), Kolkata (August 20-21) and Hyderabad (August 24-25).

6. ISRO successfully tested LEM for Gaganyaan in Andhra Pradesh.

In another important milestone in the Gaganyaan project, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully carried out the test-firing of the Low Altitude Escape Motor (LEM) of Crew Escape System, from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh yesterday, officials said on Thursday.

7. Fifth Elephant Reserve established at Agasthyamalai in Tamil Nadu.

On the occasion of World Elephant Day on Friday, the centre has announced the establishment of another elephant reserve at Agasthiyamalai. This reserve will be the 32nd elephant reserve in the country and the fifth in Tamil Nadu. It will be adding 1,197 sq km of area dedicated to elephant conservation.

8. The first Tata Steel Chess Women’s Tournament will be held in Kolkata.

World class chess came to Kolkata in the form of the first inaugural Tata Steel Chess India tournament in November 2018. The tournament witnessed participation of the world’s top grandmasters, including Viswanathan Anand, in the Rapid and Blitz formats.
