India has slipped 8 places on the World Press Freedom Index 2022. With a global score of 41, India has gone down to the 150th position from 142 last year. The index released by Reporters Without Borders(RSF) on May 3, which is observed as the World Press Freedom Day, assesses the state of journalism in 180 countries and territories. Among India’s prominent neighbours, both Pakistan and China are way below on the index. Pakistan with a global score of 37.99 is at 157th position, while China with a score of 25.17 is at 175th spot. Bhutan with a score of 76.46 is at the 33rd position, the best in the region.

The Central government has appointed senior IPS officer Tapan Kumar Deka as Director of Intelligence Bureau. Tapan Kumar Deka, a 1988 batch Himachal Pradesh cadre IPS officer, was appointed for a tenure of two years from the date of assumption of the charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Deka will succeed incumbent Intelligence Bureau Director Arvind Kumar, whose tenure ends on June 30.

Madhya Pradesh scripted history on Sunday in Bengaluru as they won their first-ever Ranji Trophy title. MP, led by Aditya Shrivastava, defeated 41-time champions Mumbai in the final by 6 wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Rajat Patidar, who is fast-rising to be one of the prominent names in Indian cricket, hit the winning runs as Madhya Pradesh chased down a 108-run target on Day 5 of the final. MP lost 4 wickets but Patidar kept a calm head and hit the winning runs, sending the players into a frenzy.

Drug abuse remains one of the biggest threats to health and the society in general. It’s one of the major issues that the world is struggling with and which needs to be completely eliminated from the society. Every year, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed on June 26. The main aim of this day is to spread awareness about the physical and psychological impact of substance abuse, drug overdose deaths, and drugs-related problems across the globe. This year, the theme for the day is “Addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crisis.” This addresses the different challenges the world is facing and tries to take steps to create a world free of drug abuse. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), the issue of transnational drug challenges will be addressed.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that drug de-addiction campaign should be launched in Samras Panchayats. A special reward of Rs 2 lakh will be given to a drug-free village. To make the village drug-free, an environment should be created through mutual dialogue and various inspirational activities. We must ensure that our Panchayats are ‘Beti Friendly’. In all Panchayats including Samaras Panchayats, more respect, honor and dignity of daughters must be ensured. Sons and daughters must be treated equally.

मुख्यमंत्री शिवराज सिंह चौहान ने कहा है कि समरस पंचायतों में नशामुक्ति अभियान चलाया जाए। नशामुक्त गांव को दो लाख रुपए का विशेष इनाम दिया जाएगा। गांव को नशामुक्त बनाने के लिए आपसी संवाद और विभिन्न प्रेरणादायी गतिविधियों के माध्यम से माहौल बनाना चाहिए। हमें यह सुनिश्चित करना चाहिए कि हमारी पंचायतें ‘बेटी फ्रेंडली’ हों। समरस पंचायतों सहित सभी पंचायतों में बेटियों का अधिक सम्मान, सम्मान और सम्मान सुनिश्चित किया जाए। बेटे-बेटियों के साथ समान व्यवहार किया जाना चाहिए।

Anil Khanna has been appointed the acting President of Indian Olympic Association (IOA). The Delhi High Court has ordered that Narinder Dhruv Batra cannot continue as the President of the IOA and appointed Anil Khanna as acting president. Veteran sports administrator Narinder Batra was ordered to stop functioning as Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president by the Delhi High Court “in a contempt proceeding”, a month after it asked him to relinquish the top job. A vacation bench of Justice Dinesh Sharma passed the order on a contempt petition filed by Olympian and hockey World Cup winner Aslam Sher Khan.

The research wing of the Uttarakhand Forest department discovered a rare carnivorous plant species Utricularia Furcellata, which has been published in ‘the Journal of Japanese botany’. The journal of Japanese botany is a 106-year-old journal on plant taxonomy and botany and is considered one of the most prestigious journals in the field. It (Utricularia Furcellata) is the first such publication in this journal by Uttarakhand Forest Department. A team of the Research Wing of the Uttarakhand forest department, consisting of Range officer Harish Negi and Junior Research Fellow (JRF) Manoj Singh discovered this Utricularia Furcellata in the Mandal valley in September 2021.

In order to improve the quality of life for seniors, the State Bank of India (SBI) and the Department of Pension & Pensioners Welfare (DoPPW) of the Centre will work together to develop an integrated pension platform. SBI field employees were given sessions on pension policy reforms and digitization relating the disbursement of pensions to central government pensioners at a two-day banker’s awareness event in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Indian women’s discus thrower, Navjeet Dhillon won the gold medal at the Qosanov Memorial 2022 athletics meet in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Navjeet Dhillon, who is looking to seal her place in the Indian team for Commonwealth Games, won the women’s discus throw with a 56.24m effort. Local athlete Karina Vasilyeva with 44.61m and Uzbekistan’s Yulianna Shchukina with 40.48m followed Navjeet Dhillon on the podium.
