RBI imposes monetary penalty on Central Bank of India for non-compliance

1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a monetary penalty of ₹ 36 lakh on the Central Bank of India (CBI) for non-compliance with certain regulatory directions.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed, by an order dated April 18, 2022 a monetary penalty of ₹36 lakh (Rupees Thirty six lakh only) on Central Bank of India (the bank) for non-compliance with certain directions issued by RBI on ‘Customer Protection–Limiting Liability of Customers in Unauthorised Electronic Banking Transactions’. This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI under the provisions of section 47 A (1) (c) read with section 46 (4) (i) and section 51(1) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. This action is based on the deficiencies in regulatory compliance and is not intended to pronounce upon the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the bank with its customers.

भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक (RBI) ने 18 अप्रैल, 2022 के एक आदेश द्वारा, जारी किए गए कुछ निर्देशों का पालन न करने के लिए सेंट्रल बैंक ऑफ़ इंडिया (बैंक) पर ₹36 लाख (छत्तीस लाख रुपये मात्र) का मौद्रिक जुर्माना लगाया है। भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक द्वारा ‘ग्राहक संरक्षण-अनधिकृत इलेक्ट्रॉनिक बैंकिंग लेनदेन में ग्राहकों की सीमित देयता’ पर। यह जुर्माना बैंकिंग विनियमन अधिनियम, 1949 की धारा 46 (4) (i) और धारा 51(1) के साथ पठित धारा 47 ए (1) (सी) के प्रावधानों के तहत आरबीआई में निहित शक्तियों का प्रयोग करते हुए लगाया गया है। कार्रवाई नियामक अनुपालन में कमियों पर आधारित है और बैंक द्वारा अपने ग्राहकों के साथ किए गए किसी भी लेनदेन या समझौते की वैधता पर उच्चारण करने का इरादा नहीं है।

4. Tokyo Olympian Deepak Punia won the silver medal in men’s freestyle 86kg on the last day of the 2022 Asian Wrestling Championships.

India’s Deepak Punia won the 86kg men’s freestyle silver medal while Viky clinched bronze in 92kg on final day of the Asian Wrestling Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on Sunday. Deepak lost 1-6 to Kazakhstan’s Azamat Dauletbekov in the summit clash.

5. Olympic silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya became the first Indian wrestler to claim three successive gold medals in the Asian wrestling championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

6. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh felicitated over 300 war-veterans of the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh in Assam.

War veterans including women liberation war fighters, Veer Naris and their families attended the felicitation ceremony in Guwahati organised by the government of Assam. Bangladeshi war veteran of 1971 and Padma Shri recipient Lt. Col Quazi Sajjad Ali Zahir (Retd) was among those present.
