The Indira Gandhi International Airport has become the first in India to run completely on solar and hydropower. This is a step toward the Airport’s goal of becoming a Net-zero carbon emission Airport by 2030. The old solar power panels in the airport were providing around 6 per cent of the electricity requirement of the airport. Now, the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a GMR Infrastructure Limited-led consortium, has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with a Himachal Pradesh-based hydropower producing company for the supply of hydroelectricity for the airport until 2036. This will provide for the remaining 94 per cent energy requirement and has been in action since June 1.

ienna has been deemed the most livable city this year as per the annual ranking of the world’s most livable cities by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). The ranking was released on Thursday by the EIU, which is a sister organisation to The Economist. It surveyed and ranked cities across 173 countries based on a plethora of factors, including access to health care, crime rates, political stability and infrastructure.

A coalition of scientists formed against the Covid-19 threat has declared the Monkeypox outbreak a Public Health Emergency of Global Concern. This comes days after the Head of the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee has been convened due to the spread of the Monkeypox virus to 32 non-endemic countries. According to news agency ANI, the experts will meet on June 23 to assess whether the continuing outbreak represents a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, the highest level of global alert, which currently applies only to the COVID-19 pandemic and polio.

A new book written by award-winning senior journalist and columnist Abhigyan Prakash explores the political importance of the state of Uttar Pradesh. About the book, Prakash says, “Born in Banaras and brought up in Lucknow, naturally this book has my emotions and closeness to my heart regarding Uttar Pradesh.” Prakash, who has reported on and analysed the state and national politics for over two decades, explains that the concerns mentioned in the book have been there with him for a very long time. Published by HarperCollins, “From Lucknow to Lutyens: The Power and Plight of Uttar Pradesh” will be released on 21 March on Softcover, ThePrint’s online venue to launch non-fiction books.

South Korea’s second test launch of its domestically produced Nuri rocket successfully placed several satellites in orbit on Tuesday, officials said, taking a major step in efforts to jumpstart its space programme after a first test failed last year. The rocket lifted off from Naro Space Center on the southern coast of South Korea at 4 p.m. (0700 GMT). A 162.5-kg (358 lb)satellite designed to verify the rocket’s performance successfully made contact with a base station in Antarctica after entering orbit, officials said.

The first edition comprises of 169 entries and 12 categories for awards. Commerce and Industries Ministry undertook a year-long process to identify, categorise, and select qualified applications. An expert screening committee, comprising of 18 diverse experts as well as a national jury of 9 senior dignitaries was created to make final deliberations.
