FIFA announced on Wednesday the 16 North American cities that will host matches for the 2026 World Cup, with 11 venues chosen in the United States, three in Mexico and two in Canada. The 2026 World Cup will be the first tournament hosted by three nations and also the first that will expand to 48 teams in the competition.

Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji has dropped the trailer of “Shabaash Mithu”, a Taapsee Pannu-starrer biopic on former India women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj. The film is set to hit theatres on July 15. The film has been written by Priyan Aven who makes her debut as a screenplay writer with Shabaash Mithu. Amit Trivedi has provided music for the film with lyrics by Swanand Kirkire, Kausar Munir and Raghav M. Kumar, and sound designed by Academy Award winner Rasool Pookutty.

According to Ookla, in the month of May, India recorded 14.28 Mbps median mobile download speeds which is slightly better than 14.19 Mbps in April 2022. With this, the country is now three notches up in its global ranking and is at 115th position. India also improved its global ranking for overall fixed median download speeds, from 76th in April to 75th in May 2022. However, India’s performance in median download speeds on fixed broadband witnessed a slight dip from 48.09 Mbps in April 2022 to 47.86 in May 2022.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has inaugurated National Yoga Olympiad 2022 and quiz competition in New Delhi. The National Yoga Olympiad is being organised jointly by the Ministry of Education and the National Council of Educational Research and Training. Indian Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra has bagged a gold for India at the Kuortane Games in Finland. Chopra claimed the medal after registering a throw of 86.69m on his first attempt. He finished ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott and world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada.

World Refugee Day is celebrated every year on 20 June. World Refugee Day was designated as an International Day by the UN (United Nations). The day is being celebrated to honour the refugees around the world. Refugees are people who are being forced to leave their homeland due to terror, conflicts, wars, prosecutions, or any other crises. World Refugee Day is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives.
