Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay has decided to dedicate the 2023 International Day of Education (January 24) to Afghan girls and women. On the occasion of an event organized at the UN headquarters, UNESCO will renew its call to immediately restore their fundamental right to education. On the occasion of the International Day of Education, on 24 January, UNESCO is hosting an event at the United Nations in New York, with the contribution of the UN Secretary-General, the President of the UN General Assembly, as well as UNESCO’s Director – General. The first panel discussion will be devoted to the education of girls and women in Afghanistan.

India International Science Festival (IISF)-2022 will be held in Bhopal in January 2023 and incidentally, it is one of the major events to be held after India took over G-20 Presidency. IISF is the initiative of the Ministry of Science & Technology and Ministry of Earth Science of Government of India in association with Vijnana Bharati which is a science movement with swadeshi spirit led by eminent scientists of the country. The IISF 2022 is the eighth edition since its inception in 2015.

On January 24, the nation celebrates National Girl Child Day. This day was established in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The goal of National Female Child Day is to highlight the prejudice and injustice that girl children face. To raise awareness of the injustices girls face in Indian society, the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Indian government started it in 2008. The day is celebrated with planned activities, such as awareness campaigns for Save the Girl Child, child sex ratios, and the development of a safe and healthy environment for girls.

Separately, the Navy also conducted the biennial tri-services amphibious exercise (AMPHEX) 2023 at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh from January 17 to 22. The exercise was focusead on joint training of elements of all three services in various facets of amphibious operations to enhance interoperability and synergy.

Higher Education Minister in Kerala R Bindu announced that girls students above the age of 18 years will get maternity leave of 60 days. The required attendance percentage for female students will be 73 percent including menstrual leave. The attendance percentage required earlier was 75 percent.

Aska police station in Ganjam district of Odisha was awarded as number one police station by Home Minister Amit Shah during the DGSP/IGSP conference 2022 held at National Agricultural Science Complex, New Delhi. Aska police station got this title in the annual ranking of police stations for the year 2022.
