Veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge was elected as the new party chief on Wednesday after he polled nearly 8,000 votes in the presidential election. Kharge will formally take over as party chief on October 26. Shashi Tharoor, who garnered nearly 1,100 votes, conceded defeat minutes after the announcement and said that the “revival of our party has truly begun today”.

Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala to conduct the Indian Navy Sailing Championship 2022 at Marakkar Watermanship Training Centre in Kerala. The Indian Navy Sailing Championship 2022 is the largest intra-Navy sailing regatta in which nearly one hundred yatchpersons from all three Indian Naval Commands will participate. The sailing championship is one of the events being conducted by the Indian Navy to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Khelo India. The Championship will be held from 18th October 2022 to 21st October 2022.

The Centre has appointed Sanjay Malhotra, a 1990 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Rajasthan cadre, as the new revenue secretary. He will replace Tarun Bajaj who will superannuate at the end of November. Malhotra, currently serving as secretary in the Department of Financial Services (DFS), will join the Revenue Department as an officer on special duty. The centre has announced new secretaries for 16 ministries and departments.

Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas inaugurated Asia’s largest compressed Bio Gas(CBG) plant in Lehragaga, in Punjab’s Sangrur on October 18, 2022. The plant has been authorized with a foreign direct investment of approximately Rs. 220 crores by Verbio AG, one of Germany’s leading bio-energy companies. Bhagwant Mann, Chief Minister of Punjab, and senior management from Verbio India Private Limited were present at the inaugural event.

Indian javelin thrower DP Manu won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the National Open Athletics Championships 2022 in Bengaluru on Tuesday. Former national champion Rohit Yadav won the silver medal with a best effort of 79.80m and Kishore Kumar Jena took bronze with a best of 78.05m.
