The Indian Railways will soon launch freight services in the country’s indigenously developed Vande Bharat Trains. The objective behind the launch is to capture additional high-value time-sensitive cargo delivery to the destination. Shehan Karunatilaka has been chosen as the 2022 Booker Prize winner. The award was presented to the Sri Lankan novelist by Queen Consort Camilla at the Roundhouse in London on Monday night at the awards event for his work, The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida. The novel is based on the murder of a war photographer in Colombo in the 1990s and examines life after death in a civil war-torn Sri Lanka.

The central government has approved the construction of an iconic cable stayed-cum-suspension bridge across the Krishna river connecting Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and passing through the Nallamala forest range. The decision was announced by the union minister for road transport and national highways Nitin Gadkari. Gadkari said the iconic bridge will have several unique features like the longest glass pedestrian walkway across a river, gopuram-like pylons, signature lighting and a large navigational span.

On the birth anniversary of its founder, Aligarh Muslim University awarded the Sir Syed Excellence Award for 2022 to University of California retired history professor Barbara Metcalf. On Monday, noted historian Metcalf said the Ulemas are one social group that has long been exposed to preconceptions based only on their physical appearances, and urged historians to rise beyond stereotypes since history begets just politics. Metcalf made the statements in her acceptance speech after receiving the Sir Syed Excellence Award for 2022 from AMU on the birth anniversary of its founder. Sir Syed Khan, a philosopher and educationist who founded the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental (MAO) College, currently known as the Aligarh Muslim University AMU), was born on October 17, 1875.
