The governments of Punjab and Haryana Saturday reached a consensus on naming the Chandigarh international airport after freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. The decision was taken during a meeting between Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala. The two neighbouring states share Chandigarh, an Union Territory, as their joint capital.

चंडीगढ़ अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे का नाम स्वतंत्रता सेनानी भगत सिंह के नाम पर रखने पर पंजाब और हरियाणा सरकार के बीच शनिवार को सहमति बन गई। यह फैसला पंजाब के मुख्यमंत्री भगवंत मान और हरियाणा के उपमुख्यमंत्री दुष्यंत चौटाला के बीच हुई बैठक में लिया गया। दोनों पड़ोसी राज्य अपनी संयुक्त राजधानी के रूप में केंद्र शासित प्रदेश चंडीगढ़ को साझा करते हैं।
Shiprocket, a logistics technology platform supported by Zomato, raised $33.5 million (about Rs 270 crore) in a fundraising round co-led by Temasek and Lightrock India, Shiprocket becoming the 106th unicorn in India. With the new capital, Shiprocket was valued at about $1.2 billion. Since its founding in 2017, Shiprocket has tripled in size and serves more than 66 million clients annually.

Young striker Manisha Kalyan became the first Indian footballer to play at the UEFA Women’s Champions League when she made her debut for Apollon Ladies FC in the European Club competition in Engomi, Cyprus. In November 2021, the 20-year-old had become the first ever Indian footballer to score a goal in the AFC Women’s Club Championship.

Former India football team captain, Samar ‘Badru’ Banerjee, who led the country to a historic fourth-place finish in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, has passed away recently. He was 92. He was bestowed with the Mohun Bagan Ratna in 2009. Banerjee has also won the Santosh Trophy twice as a player in 1953 & 1955 and once as a coach in 1962. The West Bengal Government honoured Badru Banerjee with the Lifetime Achievement Award in sports in 2017.

The International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief, observed on August 22, emphasises the significance of aiding victims of religious persecution as part of the UN’s efforts to promote Human Rights related to religious or belief freedom. It was first made official in 2019. The resolution was enacted immediately after mosques in New Zealand and churches in Sri Lanka were attacked. The resolution was introduced by Poland’s Foreign Minister, Jacek Czaputowicz. It was approved by a small group of countries, including the United States, Iraq, Jordan, Canada, Brazil, and Pakistan.

Madhya Pradesh’s tribal-dominated Mandla region has become the first fully “functionally literate” district in the country. Another report of 2020 highlights that, more than 2.25 lakh people in this district were not literate, most of them were tribals from forest areas. Tribals frequently complained to the authorities about money being taken from their bank accounts by fraudsters and the root cause of this was that they were not functionally literate.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that the Government is committed to make the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) more empowered and responsive. Addressing the gathering at a Seminar on ‘Introspection: Armed Forces Tribunal’, organized by Armed Forces Tribunal Principal Bench Bar Association today in New Delhi, he said that Armed Forces Tribunal will help in speedy disposal of cases. Mr. Singh added that domain-specific Tribunals were set up to deal with diverse cases and clear pending cases.

रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने शनिवार को कहा कि सरकार सशस्त्र बल न्यायाधिकरण (एएफटी) को अधिक सशक्त और उत्तरदायी बनाने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है। आज नई दिल् ली में सशस् त्र बल न् यायाधिकरण प्रधान पीठ बार एसोसिएशन द्वारा ‘आत् मविश् लेषण: सशस् त्र बल न् यायाधिकरण’ विषय पर आयोजित संगोष् ठी को संबोधित करते हुए उन् होंने कहा कि सशस् त्र बल न् यायाधिकरण मामलों के त् वरित निपटान में मदद करेगा। श्री सिंह ने कहा कि विभिन्न मामलों से निपटने और लंबित मामलों को निपटाने के लिए डोमेन-विशिष्ट न्यायाधिकरणों की स्थापना की गई थी।
HDFC Bank inaugurated an all-women branch in Kozhikode, north Kerala. Mayor of the city Corporation Beena Philip opened the branch of HDFC Bank. As of March 31, 2022, women made up 21.7% (21,486) of the workforce, according to the bank. By 2025, the private lender wants to raise it to 25%. Deals beyond a certain threshold require regulator approval, which keeps an eye on unethical business practises in the marketplace.
